Purposed CIC is committed to the safety and wellbeing of every young person who engages with our work — through the campaign, the platform, workshops, or any other context. This statement sets out how we take that commitment seriously in practice.
Our Designated Safeguarding Lead

Who this applies to
Our safeguarding responsibilities apply to all young people who engage with Purposed’s work, with particular attention to those who may be at greater risk: young people who are NEET, care-experienced, young carers, those with disabilities, and those from underrepresented backgrounds.
Story submissions and disclosures
Every story submitted to the Ellipsis Campaign is reviewed by a human editor before publication. If a submission contains a disclosure that suggests a young person may be at risk of harm — to themselves or others — the following steps are taken, regardless of the anonymity level the contributor has chosen.
The submission is flagged immediately and routed to the DSL, separately from the editorial review process.
The DSL assesses the disclosure and determines the appropriate response.
If the risk is assessed as significant, we will take action in line with our safeguarding policy — which may include contacting relevant statutory services.
Anonymity is not a barrier to safeguarding action. The protection of a young person at risk takes precedence over all editorial and data decisions.

Age policy
The Ellipsis Campaign’s open submission form is intended for people aged 16 and over. People under 16 are welcome to participate in supervised workshop contexts run by trained facilitators using Purposed’s workshop materials. If you believe a submission has been made by someone under 16 without appropriate supervision, please contact safeguarding@purposed.org immediately.
Workshops and in-person activity
All facilitators running Purposed workshops are required to have completed relevant safeguarding training appropriate to the context. Workshop contexts follow the safeguarding protocols set out in the Purposed Facilitator Guide, available on request from safeguarding@purposed.org.
Raising a concern
If you have a safeguarding concern about any aspect of Purposed’s work — whether about a specific young person, a submission, or our practices — please contact us immediately at safeguarding@purposed.org. We will acknowledge your concern within 24 hours and respond substantively within three working days.
Policy review
This safeguarding statement is reviewed annually and updated as required.
